Extra-Time Heartbreak for Kerry U16 Camogie Team
Kerry travelled to LIT on Saturday 17th October to face Limerick B in the Munster U16 C Camogie Final. The influential Ava Healy was unable to start and she was replaced by Amy O’Loughlin. Just one point separated the sides at the first water break as Limerick led by 1-2 to 1-1 with the Kerry goal coming from Cara Cullen. However, at the half-time break the Kerry girls had gone into a one-point lead, 1-4 to 1-3, and an exciting second half was in store. Kerry maintained this lead and led at the second water break by 1-5 to 1-4. However, Limerick continued to battle hard and the teams were level at the full-time whistle at 1-6 apiece. At half-time in extra-time the Limerick girls had crept into a one-point lead, 1-7 to 1-6. Kerry really pushed Limerick all the way but an exchange of points in this second period gave Limerick the spoils on a final score of Limerick 1-8 Kerry 1-7. Kerry scorers were Tara Burke who contributed three points, Alannah Stritch who scored four points and Cara Cullen who found the Limerick net. This was an outstanding game of camogie and there was consolation for Kerry as midfielder Ellen O’Donoghue received the ‘Player Of The Match’ award from Munster Camogie Treasurer Christine Ryan.
