CROTTA O’NEILLS HURLING CLUB VICTORY SOCIAL

THE Crotta O’Neills GAA Club Victory Social was held in Ballygarry Estate Hotel and Spa, Tralee on Friday 19th January 2024   and it was one hell of a hooley!
Having had an amazing year where our Senior Hurling Team , captured the Garveys Supervalu County Senior Championship title, to bridge that 55 year gap and earn a tenth county title, after defeating Lixnaw by 0-15 to 1-09 at Austin Stacks Park on Sunday August 6th at Austin Stack Park.
Also honoured on the night were the Crotta members of the victorious Crotta/Kilmoyley Hurling Minor Team, who won the County Hurling League Div 1 title in 2023. Special guests on the night were members of the Crotta 1968 County Championship winning panel.
Following an address from Club Chairman Paddy Weir. Over 300 of the club faithful sat down for dinner where Club County Board Delegate Shane Herbert did a terrific job as MC for the night and kept everything flowing.
The victorious Senior hurling panel received their County Championship medals from Kerry County board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan while the Crotta Minor Hurlers received their County Minor League Div 1 Medals from Kerry Senior Hurling captain and Crotta hurler Tomas O’Connor and victories Senior Captain Bill Keane.  Paul Shanahan (Selector) introduced the players to the guests with a brief description of each player, while Brendan Mahony Senior Trainer introduced the senior players to the guests with a brief description of each player.

AWARDS

Tom Lawlor represented the North Kerry Hurling board, members of the victorious Crotta Senior Hurling Championship panel 1968 were also guests on the night.
A presentation was made by the Senior players to The Senior management Brendan Mahony and Johnny Horgan and each member of the backroom Jerome O’Sullivan, Ronan Falvey, Amy O’Sullivan, Paud Tuomey, Darren Houlihan and Maura Leen
The club’s hall of fame award (Matt Stack and P J Stack Memorial Trophy)  was presented to Pat Herbert by Paddy Weir.
The Club Senior Hurler of The Year, Rory Mahony, received the Dick Parkinson Memorial Trophy.
The Sam Hilliard Memorial Trophy was presented to the Club Person of The Year, Brendan Mahony who also received a signed framed Crotta Jersey from the Club.
The minor hurler of the year was Jack Ryan and he received The Monty McElligott Memorial award from Sheila O’Sullivan.
The U-21  player of the year Sean McElligott  received the Diarmuid Galvin  Memorial award from Kevin Galvin Snr
The intermediate player of the year was Sean O’Donoghue and he received the Maurice Egan memorial trophy from Darren Egan.
Eoin Reilhan received the players Senior player of the Year award.
Senior Club Sponsor Mark Corkery of MMS Carpentry received a framed Crotta Jersey from the Club for his sponsorship and support throughout the year.

Guests enjoyed a delicious four course meal Music on the night was provided by Big Jim and those attending enjoyed great food, music and dancing to the wee hours.
A great night for the club which is looking forward with optimism to the year ahead.

CANCER TABLE QUIZ

The Kilflynn Cancer Support Group Table Quiz, held on Thursday 27th December, in Parker’s and Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn was again a huge success with forty-nine tables competing. Including the auction of the Crotta jerseys, the fantastic sum of €5921 was raised on the night which has now been distributed to our benefiting charities, Recovery Haven, Kerry Hospice and Kerry Cancer Support, each receiving €1973. Thanks to the numerous businesses and individuals who donated items for raffles and prizes, and all those who helped out in any way. However, the event could not have been such a success with the continued support of the people of Kilflynn, Abbeydorney and surrounding parishes, who turned up on the night and gave so generously. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. The quiz night again exceeded all expectations and all those involved are already looking forward to Christmas 2024, which will mark 20 years of the event!

Niamh has been actively taking part in the challenge and doing her 30 minutes of exercise while undergoing treatment for an illness that unfortunately has touched so many of our family, friends and community. SENIOR HURLING CAPTAIN

Tomás O’Connor has been nominated by Crotta, 2023 County Champions, as the Kerry Senior Hurling Captain for 2024. Tomás nomination was ratified at Wednesday night’s (17th January) meeting of the Kerry G.A.A County Board. Congratulations Tomás – wishing you and all the team the very best of luck this season.

Crotta Hurling Club have agreed to extend the deadline for the €23,000 Giveaway draw until Sunday 17th March 2024. This decision has been taken as sales have unfortunately fell short of our expectations.

CROTTA LOTTO JACKPOT RESULTS

The Crotta hurling club weekly lotto draw was held on Monday night 22nd January, at Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn. The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the independent observer: Graham Harris, Clounsillagh, Lixnaw were 1,9,25 and 26. There was no winner of the 7,700 Jackpot. The Crotta GAA seeks applicants for Scor members.
It’s a new year so try a new activity
Scor Details:
The County Final of Scór Chiarraí Scór na nÒg will take place on the 2nd Feb. This is a county competition only for this year.
If anyone is interested please contact our Scòr Òfficer Tom Breen on (087) 274 8555 before next Saturday 20th Jan.
Scòr na bPaisti North Kerry Final will take place on Sunday 25th February. Time and venue TBC.
The Events for Scór are: Figure/Ceilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation/ Scèalaìocht, Novelty act/ Nuachleas, Instrumental Music , Set Dancing and Table Quiz.
